Andre of Azores Mountain Bike Holidays escorted me for a full days riding up to and around Lagoa do Fogo (the Fire Lake) on Sao Miguel on June 24th 2014. As an older rider with over 20 yrs mountain biking behind me I was blown away by my experience riding on my first visit to the Azores. I was very well looked after – guided and assisted – as needed (mainly on exposed trails!) Lunch by the lake was an unexpected delight – followed by a circuitous and varied descent, and ascent again (because I did not want to stop riding) ending back down at sea level. The day ended bathing in hot thermal pools – perfect for the weary legs. The trails were varied in nature, from wilderness to certainly challenging, the views were to die for, the subtropical forest scents intoxicating, the company invigorating – as well as good fun. Good English spoken! It was more than a mountain biking adventure, it was all of that and some – an experience that took me out of myself, one I shall never forget. I shall return!
